STIPPLED PORCELAIN BY STEVEN MCCLURE

We Always seek to stay at the forefront, our beautiful Stippled Porcelain collection – a collaboration local ceramicist Steven McClure, has been created to complement the trend toward handcrafted, natural finishes in interior spaces.

McClure’s porcelain candleholder enchanted us, so we invited the craftsman to develop a lighting range that would showcase the natural beauty of the material. This was our first venture with an Australian craftsperson.

The Stippled Porcelain lighting range is available in four styles - Cone, Slim, Squat and Crumpled.

Melbourne-made Southern Ice Porcelain was selected for these pendants - it cries out to be illuminated, and the final result is raw and refined, allowing the material speak loudest. When lit there is a beautiful warmth that emanates.

When it comes to the Stippled Porcelain Range, Steven notes that he deliberately set out to allow these characteristics to stay in the work rather than submitting to more industrial processes and forms of the material, which would have created a more more uniform and controlled outcome, rather than the Stippled Porcelain range has a more fluid finish.

All these qualities of the material can be seen in the final finishes of each style in the range, which all vary slightly. When the porcelain is fired to its top temperature of almost 1300 degrees celsius, the material begins to soften slightly, and the juxtaposition of the matte finish of the unglazed outer surface with the glossiness of the glazed internal surface.

The final detail of this striking range is the hand finished embossing applied with a loose hand to again, avoid an overly manufactured uniformity, each of these make the illuminated object more visually compelling and allows the natural beauty of the porcelain to shine through.

HOW TO BEST LIGHT YOUR BATHROOM

How do you get your bathroom light right? The best bathrooms strike a perfect balance between relaxation and function, and lighting is essential lighting in achieving this. Bathroom time involves important tasks.

Here are 4 tips for perfect, unique lighting that gets the mix of moody and bright just right.

LIGHT FROM THE SIDE

The secret to achieving a flawless finish is to light your face on either side rather than a light in the centre of the room or one directly above you. If you wanted to get the lighting perfect, you could create a Hollywood lighting effect all around the mirror for perfectly even lighting, however a light on each side of the mirror is very effective.

The HD2 & HD3 wall light range is a perfect choice for creating even illumination

STAY WARM

A bathroom should be lit with a warm light rather than cool lighting options, using LED globes of 3000K. LED are amore energy efficient option and take care of the planet by reducing greenhouse emissions and take care of the planet and lower your electricity bill - on top of all these features, they ensure an even skin tone.

KEEP IT SEPARATE

Have more than one light source in the bathroom. You may want to switch on lights beside your mirror when applying make-up or you may want to create a relaxing atmosphere with softer, moody lighting above your bath. Choose lighting designs that are not susceptible to mould or mildew, we wouldn't recommend shades made from fabric.

The Ziggy pendant light with it's perforated aluminium, features a bold, graphic design that will cast a beautiful ambient pattern perfect for relaxing baths.

BE FLEXIBLE

Adjustable lights can also be effective in a bathroom when it comes to transforming the space's utility and ambience. Te best lighting for your bathroom should provide balance between form and function and should illuminate important tasks while also setting the mood. Our extensive collection of design ensure you will get your bathroom lighting just right.

THE LUXE RANGE

The Luxe Range

The Luxe range marks a whole new direction of contemporary lighting for us at ISM Objects. Featuring an elegant pendant and an articulated wall lamp that casts a warm glow in any chosen direction, the Luxe range continues our exploration of brass and matt black metallic finishes.

Our passion for authentic design, local manufacturing and a desire to work with elegant materials like brass were key inspirations for the Luxe range.

The Luxe pendant - an all-black suspension with simple spun canopy and fabric cable, forms a striking contrast to the brushed solid brass tubular shade. The Luxe articulated wall lamp features a double LED lamp source that can be either hardwired or portable. Mounted on a matt black powder-coated rod, the brushed solid brass shade can be moved in any direction to suit any task or environment.

Like all our ISM Object designs, the Luxe lights are suited to a range of environments, including domestic and commercial settings.
